Hardness Test of GRB 950830 as a Gravitationally Lensed Echo

چکیده

Abstract Cumulative hardness comparisons are a simple but statistically powerful test for the presence of gravitational lensing in gamma-ray bursts (GRBs). Since does not change photon energies, all source images should have same spectra—and hence hardness. Applied to recent claim that two pulses GRB 950830 lensed pulse, measured flux ratio between main be at energies. After summing up counts both 950830's four BATSE energy bands, it was found channel 3, second pulse appears somewhat weak. In comparison with other channels, difference significant above 90%. This model-independent indicates case involving lens may intriguing—but considered proven.

Gravitationally Lensed Arc Statistics as a Cosmological Probe

We calculate the expected number of gravitationally lensed arcs on the whole sky due to foreground galaxy clusters for different cosmological models. We use the redshift and magnitude distribution for sources in the Hubble Deep Field to describe the background galaxies, and model the foreground galaxy clusters as singular isothermal spheres. We account for the redshift evolution of foreground l...

A Submillimeter Survey of Gravitationally Lensed Quasars

Submillimeter (and in some cases millimeter) wavelength continuum measurements are presented for a sample of 40 active galactic nuclei (probably all quasars) lensed by foreground galaxies. The object of this study is to use the lensing boost, anywhere from ∼ 3 − 20 times, to detect dust emission from more typical AGNs than the extremely luminous ones currently accessible without lensing. The so...

Gravitationally Lensed Type – II Quasar

A single-screen model of the gravitational lens system 2016+112 is proposed, that explains recent Hubble Space Telescope (HST) infrared (NICMOS–F160W) observations and new high-resolution European VLBI Network (EVN) 5–GHz radio observations, presented in this paper. In particular, we find that a massive 'dark' structure at the lens position, previously suggested by X-ray, optical and spectrosco...

Tuning Gravitationally Lensed Standard Sirens

Gravitational waves emitted by chirping supermassive black hole binaries could in principle be used to obtain very accurate distance determinations. Provided they have an electromagnetic counterpart from which the redshift can be determined, these standard sirens could be used to build a high redshift Hubble diagram. Errors in the distance measurements will most likely be dominated by gravitati...
